Preparation H is available in ointment, cream and suppository product forms. The Ointment contains Petrolatum 71.9%, Mineral Oil 14%, Shark Liver Oil 3% and Phenylephrine HCl 0.25%.
The Cream contains Petrolatum 18%, Glycerin 12%, Shark Liver Oil 3% and Phenylephrine HCl 0.25%.
The Suppositories contain Cocoa Butter 85.5%, Shark Liver Oil 3%, and Phenylephrine HCL 0.25%.
The Cooling Gel contains Phenylephrine HCl 0.25% and Witch Hazel 50%.
Preparation H Ointment, Suppositories and Cream, temporarily shrink hemorrhoidal tissue and give temporary relief of the itching, burning and discomfort associated with hemorrhoids. The Cooling Gel aids in protecting irritated anorectal areas.
: In case of bleeding, or if condition worsens or does not improve within 7 days, consult a doctor promptly. Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage unless directed by a doctor. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, seek professional assistance or contact a poison control center immediately. As with any drug, if you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health professional before using this product. The Cooling Gel aids in protecting initated anorectal areas.
Ointment/Cream/Suppository/Cooling Gel: Do not use this product if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, or difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostate gland unless directed by a doctor.
Ointment/Cooling Gel: Do not use this product with an applicator if the introduction of the applicator into the rectum causes additional pain. Consult a doctor promptly.
Cream: Do not put this product into the rectum by using fingers or any mechanical device or applicator.
Drug Interaction Precaution : Ointment/Cream/Suppository/Cooling Gel --Do not use this product if you are presently taking a prescription drug for high blood pressure or depression, without first consulting your doctor.
Ointment/Cream/Suppositories --ADULTS--When practical, cleanse the affected area by patting or blotting with an appropriate cleansing tissue. Gently dry by patting or blotting with toilet tissue or a soft cloth before application of this product.
Children under 12 years of age: consult a doctor.
Ointment --Apply to the affected area up to 4 times daily, especially at night, in the morning or after each bowel movement. Regular application and lubrication with Preparation H Ointment provide continual therapy for relief of hemorrhoidal symptoms. FOR INTRARECTAL USE: Before applying, remove protective cover from applicator. Attach applicator to tube. Lubricate applicator well, then gently insert applicator into the rectum. Thoroughly cleanse applicator after each use and replace protective cover. Also apply ointment to external area.
Cream --Apply externally to the affected area up to 4 times daily, especially at night, in the morning, or after each bowel movement. Preparation H Cream is to be applied externally or in the lower portion of the anal canal only. The enclosed dispensing cap is designed to control dispersion of the cream to the affected area in the lower portion of the anal canal. Before applying, remove protective cover from dispensing cap. Attach cap to tube. Lubricate dispensing cap well, then gently insert dispensing cap part way into the anus. Thoroughly cleanse dispensing cap after each use and replace protective cover. Regular application and lubrication with Preparation H Cream provides continual therapy for relief of hemorrhoidal symptoms.
Suppositories --Detach one suppository from the strip. Remove foil wrapper before inserting into the rectum as follows: Hold suppository with rounded end up. Carefully separate foil by inserting tip of fingernail at end marked "peel down". Peel foil slowly and evenly down both sides, exposing suppository. Remove exposed suppository from wrapper. Insert one suppository into the rectum up to 4 times daily, especially at night, in the morning or after each bowel movement. Regular application and lubrication with Preparation H Suppositories provide continual therapy for relief of hemorrhoidal symptoms.
Cooling Gel --When first opening the tube, puncture foil seal with top end of cap.
ADULTS--When practical, cleanse and gently dry the affected area by patting or blotting with an appropriate cleansing tissue before applying gel. Apply externally to the affected area up to 4 times daily, especially at night, in the morning or after each bowel movement.
