Chlorpheniramine maleate in RYNA and RYNA-C is an antihistamine that antagonizes the effects of histamine.
Codeine phosphate in RYNA-C is a centrally-acting antitussive that relieves cough.
Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride in RYNA and RYNA-C is a sympathomimetic nasal decongestant that acts to shrink swollen mucosa of the respiratory tract.
RYNA: For the temporary relief of nasal congestion due to the common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies. Temporarily relieves runny nose, and alleviates sneezing, itching of the nose or throat, and itchy, watery eyes due to hay fever, or other respiratory allergies such as allergic rhinitis.
RYNA-C: For the temporary relief of nasal congestion due to the common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies. Temporarily relieves runny nose and alleviates sneezing, itching of the nose or throat, and itchy, watery eyes due to the common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies. Temporarily relieves cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation as may occur with a cold. Temporarily helps to control the cough reflex that causes coughing. Temporarily reduces the intensity of coughing. Controls the impulse to cough to help you sleep. Calms the cough control center and relieves coughing.
For RYNA: Do not give this product to children taking other medication or to children under 6 years except under the advice and supervision of a doctor. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. If nervousness, dizziness or sleeplessness occur, discontinue use and call a doctor. If symptoms do not improve within 7 days or are accompanied by fever, consult a doctor. Do not take this product, unless directed by a doctor, if you have a breathing problem such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis, or if you have glaucoma, heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, or difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostate gland. May cause excitability, especially in children. May cause drowsiness; alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers may increase drowsiness effect. Avoid alcoholic beverages while taking this product. Do not take this product if you are taking sedatives or tranquilizers, without first consulting your doctor. Use caution when driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery. As with any drug, if you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health care professional before taking this product.
For RYNA-C: Adults and children who have a chronic pulmonary disease or shortness of breath, or children who are taking other drugs, should not take this product unless directed by a doctor. Do not give this product to children under 6 years of age except under the advice and supervision of a doctor. A persistent cough may be a sign of a serious condition. If cough persists for more than one week, tends to recur, or is accompanied by fever, rash or persistent headache, consult a doctor. Do not take this product for persistent or chronic cough such as occurs with smoking, asthma, or emphysema, or if cough is accompanied by excessive phlegm (mucus) unless directed by a doctor. Do not take this product unless directed by a doctor if you have a breathing problem such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis, or if you have glaucoma, heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, or difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostate gland. May cause or aggravate constipation. May cause marked drowsiness; alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers may increase the drowsiness effect. Avoid alcoholic beverages while taking this product. Do not take this product if you are taking sedatives or tranquilizers without first consulting your doctor. Use caution when driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery. May cause excitability, especially in children. Do not exceed recommended dosage. If nervousness, dizziness or sleepiness occur, discontinue use and consult a doctor. If symptoms do not improve within 7 days or are accompanied by a fever, consult a doctor. This product contains an ingredient (codeine phosphate) known to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. As with any drug, if you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health professional before using this drug.
Do not use this product if you are now taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (certain drugs for depression, psychiatric or emotional conditions, or Parkinson' disease), or for 2 weeks after stopping the MAOI drug. If you are uncertain whether your prescription drug contains an MAOI, consult a health professional before taking this product.
Dosage and Administration:
Adults and children 12 years of age and over: 2 teaspoonfuls every 4 to 6 hours, not to exceed 8 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours, or as directed by a doctor.
Children 6 to under 12 years: 1 teaspoonful every 4 to 6 hours, not to exceed 4 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours, or as directed by a doctor.
Children under 6 years of age: Consult a doctor.
RYNA-C:
A special measuring device should be used to give an accurate dose of this product to children under 6 years of age. Giving a higher dose than recommended by a doctor could result in serious side effects for the child.
RYNA: bottles of 4 fl oz (NDC 0037-0638-66).
RYNA-C: bottles of 4 fl oz (NDC 0037-0522-66) and one pint (NDC 0037-0522-68).
