Advanced Relief Visine is a sterile, isotonic, buffered ophthalmic solution containing polyethylene glycol 400 1%, povidone 1%, dextran 70 0.1%, tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride 0.05%.

Advanced Relief Visine is an ophthalmic solution combining the effects of the decongestant, tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride, with the demulcent effects of polyethylene glycol, povidone and dextran 70. It provides symptomatic relief of conjunctival edema and hyperemia secondary to minor irritations. Tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic agent, which brings about decongestion by vasoconstriction. Reddened eyes are rapidly whitened by this effective vasoconstrictor, which limits the local vascular response by constricting the small blood vessels. The onset of vasoconstriction becomes apparent within minutes. Additional effects include amelioration of burning, irritation and excessive lacrimation. Relief is afforded by three moisturizers: polyethylene glycol 400, povidone and dextran 70.

Polyethylene glycol 400, povidone and dextran 70 are ophthalmic demulcents which have been shown to be effective for the temporary relief of discomfort of minor irritations of the eye due to exposure to wind or sun. They are effective as protectants and lubricants against further irritation or to relieve dryness of the eye.

The effectiveness of tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride in relieving conjunctival hyperemia and associated symptoms has been demonstrated by numerous clinicals, including several double-blind studies, involving more than 2,000 subjects suffering from acute or chronic hyperemia induced by a variety of conditions.

Advanced Relief Visine is a unique eye drop formulation that combines the redness-relieving effects of a vasoconstrictor and the soothing, moisturizing and protective effects of three demulcents.
